Camiyah Blanchard

Institution, Major, and Hobbies
I am a rising senior at North Carolina A&T State University, majoring in biology. Outside of academics, I run my own business as a nail technician, balancing entrepreneurship with my studies. I also enjoy mentoring and supporting my peers through study groups, participating in campus organizations that uplift minority students in STEM, and exploring new research opportunities.
Career Interests
I aspire to become a pediatric dentist, but I also have a strong passion for research and science communication. I believe that research plays a crucial role in advancing healthcare, and I am interested in exploring various scientific fields, including environmental science, public health, and biomedical research. Gaining research experience will help me develop critical thinking skills and a broader understanding of science, which I can apply to my future career in dentistry. My goal is to bridge the gap between research and patient care, using scientific knowledge to improve health outcomes and educate communities.
Why I chose to Attend the USF Making Waves Research Experience for Undergraduates
I applied to the USF Making Waves REU because of its unique focus on ocean health, global climate change, and science communication. As someone passionate about research and making science accessible, I was drawn to the program鈥檚 emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and outreach. I am eager to expand my knowledge of environmental science while strengthening my ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences. This program offers a hands on learning experience that aligns with my long term goal of using science to create a positive impact on communities.
