Steven Lewis joined the OB体育官网鈥檚 Music Faculty in August of 2025,
as Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurism in the Arts.
His
responsibilities to the USF School of Music include teaching classes focused on Music
Technology, Artificial Intelligence in Music, and Entrepreneurism in the Arts.
Steven earned a PhD in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology from
the University of California Irvine鈥檚 Claire Trevor School of the Arts, a Master of
Music in
Music Technology from New York University鈥檚 Steinhardt School of Culture, Education,
and Human Development, a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of
Miami鈥檚 Frost School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of South
Florida鈥檚 School of Music. Prior to coming to the USF School of Music, Steven was
an
Instructor of Music Technology in the Atlantic Music Festival鈥檚 Future Music Lab at
Colby College, and an Instructor of Record at the University of California, Irvine.
He most
recently held the position of Show Audio Engineer at Meow Wolf Inc., an immersive
art
and media company based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
As a percussionist, music technologist and multimedia artist, Steven鈥檚 focus is on
designing multimodal interactive music systems, augmented instruments, and
controllers that leverage emergent technologies in creative domains that emphasize
live
sound processing and improvisation between the human and the computer. He is active
as a collaborator with other musicians interested in augmenting their own performance
practices with emergent technologies, most recently as part of a UC Irvine Medici
Circle
Scholarship that featured Los Angeles-based jazz drummers Mark Ferber, Jason
Harnell, Rodolfo Zuniga, and Kristina Raymond, and as a Resident Composer at the
University of Toronto鈥檚 Technology and Performance Integration Research Lab. His
creative work and research have been presented at the New York City Electro-Acoustic
Music Festival (NYCEMF), The International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), The
Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), and
GameSoundCon. He is an active member of The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in
the United States and The International Computer Music Association.
