Allyssa Jones (she/her), is an award-winning musician and educator whose career spans over 30 years in the classroom and on stage. An alumna of Adelphi University (B.S. Music Education) and Northern Illinois University (M.M. Music Education), she studied with baritone Robert Sims, soprano Jayne West, conductor Larry Newland and composer Judith Lang Zaimont. Her creative credits include five solo recordings, over 35 theatrical productions, and multiple commissions for professional artists and youth ensembles, including New Voices New Orleans Youth Chorus.

Known for championing identity and belonging in music education, Jones’ service record includes the NAfME Council for Innovations (Chair), Institute for Composer Diversity (Head of Outreach), Cultural Connections by Design (Board Member), the Massachusetts MEA-Eastern District (inaugural Advocacy and Outreach Chair), ACDA Massachusetts (Jazz Chair), the NAfME Perspectives Group (co-facilitator), and the Handel + Haydn Society (Education Planning Team). Her work as a conductor and clinician extends from over 30 years experience as a high school choral director (Boston Arts Academy - Boston, MA), middle school general music teacher (Coatesville Area School District - Coatesville, PA), and district-level administration (Boston Public Schools - Boston, MA).

At the intersection of these experiences is Jones’ work with Rising Tide Music & Arts, a non-profit organization she founded to create opportunities for Black, Brown, Indigenous and Asian music creators and educators. RTMA will soon provide a platform for music research and resources by BBIA scholars.
